1. Introduction

Welcome to WeatherDetails ("we", "our", or "the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our Android application.

WeatherDetails is a free weather application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App does not require an account, does not display advertisements, and does not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, or payment details.

By using the App, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

When you launch the App, if you grant location permission, the App accesses your device's GPS location (Android permissions: ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and/or ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION). This location (latitude and longitude) is used solely to retrieve weather data relevant to your current position.

• Location data is not stored on our servers.
• Location is transmitted directly to third-party weather APIs (see Section 4) to return weather results.
• You can deny location permission; the App will then display weather based on your approximate IP-based location, and will still function with manual city search.

2.2 Search Queries (City Names)

When you search for a city, the city name or search text is sent to a geocoding service (Nominatim / OpenStreetMap) to resolve the location. The resolved coordinates may be cached in a backend service as a geographic lookup cache to reduce repeated API calls. This cache contains only city names and their coordinates — no personal data.

2.3 Locally Cached Data

To reduce network requests and improve performance, the App stores the following data locally on your device using SQLite:

• Weather forecast data (cached for up to 15 minutes)
• Air quality index data (cached for up to 30 minutes)
• Geocoding lookup results (city to coordinates)

This local cache is stored only on your device and is not accessible to us.

2.4 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

• Names, email addresses, or any account information
• Device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID, etc.)
• Usage analytics or crash reports
• Payment or financial information
• Photos, contacts, or any other device data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information described above exclusively to:

• Fetch and display current weather conditions for your location or searched city
• Retrieve 7-day and hourly weather forecasts
• Retrieve Air Quality Index (AQI) data for your location
• Cache responses locally to improve App performance and reduce data usage

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond core App functionality.

4. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each service processes your location or search query in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their respective policies.

4.1 Open-Meteo

Used to retrieve weather forecast data. Your coordinates (latitude & longitude) are sent to their API.

4.2 World Air Quality Index (WAQI)

Used to retrieve Air Quality Index data. Your coordinates are sent to their API.

4.3 Nominatim / OpenStreetMap

Used for geocoding — converting city name searches into geographic coordinates, and reverse geocoding your GPS position into a city name.

4.4 Google Play Services

The App is distributed via Google Play. Google may collect information in accordance with their own privacy policies as part of the Play Store platform.

5. Data Storage & Retention

Weather and AQI data cached locally on your device is stored temporarily and expires automatically (weather: 15 minutes, AQI: 30 minutes). You can clear this data at any time by clearing the App's cache in your device settings.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. The only data transmission that occurs is between the App and the third-party APIs listed in Section 4, which is necessary for the App to function. We have no control over how those third-party services handle data received from API requests.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical precautions to protect data in transit (HTTPS for all API calls). However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use updated device software and be mindful of permissions granted to any application.

8. Children's Privacy

WeatherDetails is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, most data subject rights (access, correction, deletion) do not apply to our App's own data handling. However:

• You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
• You can clear locally cached data by clearing the App's storage in device settings.
• If you have concerns about data held by our third-party services, contact those services directly using their privacy policy links above.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
